Joshua Linsky has established himself as a passionate, make-it-happen musician from coast to coast in Boston and Los Angeles since 2009. Joshua is a graduate of Berklee College of Music (BM Drum Set Performance ‘13) and California Institute of the Arts (MFA Jazz Studies ‘15). Joshua has directed and managed two large ensembles; The Urban Nerdz (Boston - independent) and International Connection (Los Angeles - independent). Recording original music and producing records is a great passion of Joshua's that he has spent a majority of his career developing since 2009. He has curated the production of many collaborative recording project releases since 2012.

Joshua's journey as a professional performer started in Boston, Massachusetts where he was a drum set performance student mentored by Terri Lynne Carrington at Berklee College of Music. It was there that he truly began to believe in his abilities, and where he gained the confidence and invaluable experience as an aspiring performer. One of his proudest experiences in Boston was when he held the position of music director for a 13-piece funk/hip hop group. In 2012 under Joshua's direction the group was awarded “Hip Hop Act of the Year” at the New England Music Awards and at the New England Urban Music Awards. Between his undergraduate and graduate studies, Joshua traveled to Accra, Ghana to spend a month immersed in local villages learning about the traditional culture of the Ewe people that he had grown to love during his time at Berklee. It was during this time that he began performing with the djembe on an advanced level as a member of various groups and as a dance accompanist. As a student in the Jazz Studies program at California Institute of the Arts Joshua could start developing his own style of drumming influenced by my experience in Boston and Accra. He continued his study of drum set performance within the jazz program, and he also continued to focus on world music styles by applying what he was studying about North Indian classical music and traditional Ghanaian rhythmic concepts to drum set. Since moving to Los Angeles in 2013 Joshua has participated in four tours, two of which were international, of original music including his own works and with LA based songwriters. Joshua also founded the 10-piece funk/hip hop group International Connection and led the group as music director and manager from 2015 to 2018. Along with regular work in the city ranging from dance accompaniment to venue performances, he also earned the opportunity to record at the legendary Capitol Studios twice in collaboration with California Institute of the Arts as a featured artist on their annual Jazz Department compilation record.

Joshua's career in music education began during his time as a graduate student at California Institute of the Arts. There, he was assigned private students by the music department in assistance to the head drum set faculty and renowned jazz musician Joe LaBarbera. Joshua's teaching curriculum ranges between everything from fundamental stick-control techniques, reading skills, and study of various drumming styles to more advanced concepts such as jazz studies, four-way coordination, improvisation and the application of World Music styles to drum set. Also during his tenure at CalArts he was a faculty member for the California State Summer School of the Arts (CSSSA) as a teacher of Ghanaian music and culture. Joshua was also on faculty for the Community Arts Partnership (CAP) program as an instructor for group classes in drum set performance, group ensembles, and music theory. In addition to holding teaching positions as a student, he had the wonderful opportunity to be on faculty as alumni at CalArts to teach classes in the African Music & Dance program. Joshua has also taught at other colleges and art centers in Los Angeles as a clinician and as a guest artist for drum set and hand percussion classes. He currently holds two private teaching positions in Los Angeles where he maintains a schedule of approximately 40 students per week.
